I am so excited to be making this post as I am proud to say that Believing In Beauty was nominated for a Liebster Award by Kelly at Lipstick & Ink! Thank you so much, Kelly, for the nomination and being a support for this newbie blogger!
You most likely haven’t heard of this award, but it is an exciting one for bloggers just starting out and I am excited to share more about it with you!
What Is A Liebster Award?
The award was first created in 2011 and has since been carried on by The Global Aussie.
Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.
The Liebster Award is an award for new bloggers from other bloggers, and there are a few things you have to do to accept and continue to spread the word:
- First of all, this is an award for NEW blogs – those that have less than 200 followers.
- You need to link back to the blog that nominated you and describe a bit about what they do
- You need to write a little blurb about what makes you passionate about blogging
- Answer the questions that your nominator gives you
- Nominate 5-11 blogs to receive the award
- Post the rules
The goal of the award is to bring more awareness and to promote new bloggers, which I just love so much as we can all use a little motivation and recognition for the things that we love to do and the hard work that we put in!
This Award Opportunity
I would like to start by thanking Kelly from Lipstick & Ink for nominating me for this award. Kelly is a sweet, professional and down to earth blogger who writes with a passion for professional women. She writes to help women who want to achieve greatness in their career and life. Lipstick & Ink is set up beautifully with a classic but subtle feminine touch and brings so much inspiration.
I love the thought behind the name of the blog as it stands for exactly what she is passionate to write about. The Lipstick part represents the woman that stands out in the crowd and that knows she can do anything she puts her mind to. ” I believe a woman wearing lipstick truly embodies self-confidence and empowerment.” The Ink part represents Kelly’s love for the original form of writing – ink on paper. She explains how she has always loved journaling and keeping thoughts and memories in a way that she can look back and re-read on.
Through Lipstick & Ink, you will be encouraged to stand proud and represent yourself wearing your bold lipstick and to step away from your screen to a more authentic way of connecting through thoughts on paper.
I Was Meant To Blog
I could easily write paragraphs and paragraphs about why I love to blog as it is easy for me to do so (given that most of my posts lie somewhere between 1500 & 2300 words!) But I will give you the overall reason for why I love it.
Did you ever have the experience of searching for what you were always meant to do, but every time you tried something that was in the direction of where you wanted to be, you quickly realized that it’s not quite the right thing so you keep searching, and then all of a sudden you find it and it feels so right as though it was meant to be in your life all along? This for me is blogging.
I have been in the beauty industry for over 10 years have tried everything from selling products to working as a freelance makeup artist. Doing at home parties, to makeup videos. It’s all been so rewarding and a fantastic learning experience, but none of it was the exact right thing.
What prompted me to start blogging was that I had a website that had been “running” for a couple years, but I wasn’t updating it and investing anything more into it. It was almost acting like a business card, I would hand out the address as a side piece of information. While I was pregnant with my second son, I read something that said how you need to be constantly updating and adding to your site in order for it to be found, and it made me think about blogging. With blogging, I knew I would be constantly putting into my site, so I began reworking my site. Soon after I started the process and wrote a couple first posts everything changed. I realized not only how much I loved writing but also how well it fits into my life. Instead of it being some add-on to my site, it quickly became my whole site. My passion hit hard and I decided to go into the whole thing running. I completely rebranded and gained a vision for this new venture that felt like it was what I was always meant to do.
My Nomination Questions
1. Why Did You Start Your Blog?
I love sharing what I am passionate about which is playing with beauty products while also having a deep understanding and appreciation for inner beauty. I think there is a lot disconnect between the two in our media-driven world and so I wish to bring a light on the matter and empower women to represent their real selves underneath the fun and girly beauty products. It is very important to me to see women feeling proud of their unique qualities and flaws and to have the understanding that it is these qualities that are what makes them beautiful.
2. What’s your biggest fear in life?
This question is a difficult one for me to answer as I have many responses. I could easily tell you of my great fear of spiders or of drowning, but when I think about the biggest fear in my life, I would say its split between not getting to see my children grow up and not making a mark in this world.
When it comes to being a parent I believe this fear is one that all parents have. We want to live long enough to see the great things our children do and become and we also want to make sure we don’t outlive them. Essentially this fear comes from death which is unfortunately out of our control which is why I am learning to take in every moment and appreciate it.
The fear of not making a mark in this world I believe IS in my control. I can choose to do something magnificent and go the extra mile each day. I can choose to believe in my dreams and take the steps towards them. By simply starting where I am and moving forward I can and will make my mark, so I wish that the drive in me will never stop until I have done more than I ever thought possible.
3. If you had one last day on earth, what would you do?
If I had one last day on earth I would write. I would write letters to my children, husband and family, and I would write to the world. I would make a post about how grateful I am for the life that I have lived and everyone who has blessed me with their presence in my life, so I would simply choose to spend my day being grateful…..and I would probably eat all the sushi I could get my hands on 😉
4. What would you name your boat if you had one?
If I had a boat I would probably name it The Stargazer. I would name it this because I think it represents a lot. For one, the idea of lying out in the boat and staring at the night sky is one of my favourite things. I love astronomy and everything to do with the beauty of space and I also feel that the name represents the type of person that I am, always reaching for my dreams.
5. What is the best and worst purchase you’ve ever made?
The best purchase I ever made would have been my wedding dress. I chose to purchase my beautiful satin and crystal covered designer gown as a beautiful keepsake and memory of one of the best days of my life. The dress is stunning and worth every penny. I wish to have it hung in a full-length glass box in my beauty room one day.
The worst purchase I ever made would have probably been the box of hair dye that I used to dip dye my hair one time which was a major fail!
6. What’s the most useless talent that you have?
The most useless talent I have would be a silly hand trick I can do. I have double jointed fingers so I can move them side to side without moving the rest of my hand.
7. What celebrity would rate as a perfect 10?
A few celebrities that I appreciate are Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, Celine Dion and Ellen. To me, these are strong women with kind and passionate hearts.
8. If you had to change your name, what would you choose?
I have always loved older romantic names like Evangeline. I think it’s so beautiful and I also like Eva for short.
9. If your life had a mascot, what would your mascot be and why?
If my life had a mascot it would be a pink diamond. Diamonds in themselves are flawed but are a beautiful stone that is carved, polished and treasured for eternity which I think represents one’s life and I would make it pink because it is feminine and one of a kind.
10. What does your perfect vacation entail?
I have one particular vacation on my bucket list that is my perfect dream vacation. I dream of staying in a remote overwater bungalow on an island in Bora Bora with my husband. We would live in our bathing suits or robes, have massages, eat delicious foods, have tropical drinks and just relax surrounded by deep blue water.
11. What easy thing do you often mess up?
I am a terrible baker, I can make lots of great meals but when it comes to dessert I can’t figure it out and this includes the simplest chocolate chip cookie. I can’t tell you how many I have messed up :p
